About Laura…
An old compact camera stashed in her toy-box as a child, a curiosity about her family history and hours spent poring over photo-albums, a blossoming interest in photography as a teenager, a passion for fine art, her son, Jacob…
These are just some of the motivations behind Laura's photography.
Armed with her first SLR camera, Laura began her path as a photographer whilst still at university. Her early pictures captured details missed by the unobservant eye; seeking to capture memorable moments which will trigger an emotion in the viewer. She wants her photographs to provide a treasured family archive - a testament to a moment, a person, a mood, a relationship. Just as Laura once studied family portraits seeking resemblances and clues, she wants her work to become a beloved record for others; a connection to their past and present.
For Laura, taking somebody's picture isn't merely a transactional process. She brings a warmth and friendliness to the relationship between subject and photographer. Before any pictures are taken, Laura will call for an informal chat. This helps her to establish what is wanted from the shoot and what kind of personalities she will be working with. It allows her to relate to the people she photographs, which, for Laura, is an essential element of her work.
Many of the people Laura works with are new families and their newborn babies. As the proud mum of Jacob, (a bundle of mischief currently obsessed with footballs) Laura has a real understanding both of the demands of being a parent and the value of having a visual diary of your child's progress. |
